Job control programs in WFL
can be very large and complex.
Many sites rely on WFL programs to run different job streams and
these can become, effectively, a complete job scheduling package
tailored to an organisation’s operations requirements.
MSS WFL migration software
reads in a set of WFL source files (and any included files) and emits a
script file for each one.
Standard targets are korn
shell or perl scripting. ksh is simpler and more widely used but lacks
some of perl’s capability, e.g. does not support a ‘go to’.
Because WFLs tend to be very
tied to the mainframe architecture, the final scripts normally need
some customising in the new environment. Finding ways of mapping Unisys
concepts such as user code and pack family to open systems equivalents
can be a challenge, especially when the scripts have to conform to
existing local standards. MSS
bring many years of experience to this task and will assist a user’s
operations staff to achieve a satisfactory result.
